President at Smart City Business Institute, USA<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Lorenzo Madrid has more than 30 years of work experience in the public and private sectors, including over ten years at Microsoft Corporation, where he served as its Worldwide Senior Executive in different capacities. As part of his responsibilities, Mr. Madrid oversaw IT project development and implementation for Interoperability on eGov, OpenGov, Cloud Adoption and Smart Cities in over 50 countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

His most recent activities are in the Smart City and Telecommunication domain. They include projects such as \u201cIstanbul \u2013 Smarter City,\u201d \u201cRio de Janeiro \u2013 House of Commerce, \u201cCape Town \u2013 Intelligent Transportation Systems,\u201d and \u201cParaiba, Brazil Telecom and Cloud Datacenter\u201d. He also served as the CIO of the Secretary of Education in S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil, responsible for implementing and managing the ITC infrastructure used by 6 million students and 300,000 teachers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Madrid lectured at the Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policies in Singapore, at the School of Government in Dubai, at the Mumbai Management Institute of India, at the Harvard Kennedy School of Business and the FIA-Management Institute at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo. He has presented at numerous Smart City conferences in Spain, Brazil, Greece, Slovenia, Malaysia, Croatia, Chile, Australia, and USA.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Madrid has published books and scholarly articles on Smart Cities, Government Transformation through IT, exploring the critical linkage between IT investments and social-economic development.<\/span><\/p>\n

He was a member of the ICEGOV Advisory Board (International Congress of Electronic Governance), organized by the UN University, and a Program Committee member for the \u201cInternational Conference on Smart Governance for Sustainable Smart Cities \u2013 2019 and 2020\u201d organized by the European Alliance for Innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to his professional degrees, Mr. Madrid holds two Academic Fellow nominations, one by the Centre for Technology in Government at the State University of New York and a second by the United Nations University in Guimar\u00e3es, Portugal.<\/span><\/p>\n
