Lorenzo Madrid has more than 30 years of work experience in the public and private sectors, including over ten years at Microsoft Corporation, where he served as its Worldwide Senior Executive in different capacities. As part of his responsibilities, Mr. Madrid oversaw IT project development and implementation for Governments in over 50 countries. His most recent projects for smart solutions in cities include \u201cIstanbul \u2013 Smarter City,\u201d \u201cRio de Janeiro \u2013 House of Commerce\u201d and \u201cCape Town \u2013 Intelligent AFC System\u201d among others. He also served as Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the Secretary of Education of the State of S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil, where he was responsible for managing and implementing computerized management systems on behalf of 6 million students and 300,000 teachers. Previously, Mr. Madrid founded Princeton Systems, a Brazilian software development, and distribution firm, serving national, provincial and city government clients through a network of international partners, providing diverse service offerings.<\/span><\/p>\n

Clients and academic institutions recognize Mr. Madrid for his work in governance, public policy and ICT to promote economic and social development; he was a member of the Advisory Board of the ICEGOV (International Congress of Electronic Governance), organized by the United Nations University. Mr. Madrid has also served as a lecturer at the Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policies in Singapore, at the School of Government in Dubai, at the Mumbai Management Institute of India, at the Harvard Kennedy School of Business and the FIA-Management Institute at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo. He has presented at numerous Smart City conferences including the Andaluc\u00eda Digital Week (Spain), Smart City Business (Brazil), the Samos Summit on ICT-enabled e-Governance (Greece), the Future Cities Conference (Slovenia), the Euro-Asia Blockchain Summit (Malaysia), and the Smart Cities Blockchain Conference in Orlando, Florida<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Madrid was appointed as an Industry Fellow by the Centre for Technology in Government at the State University of New York and has published books and scholarly articles on Smart Cities, Government Transformation through IT and about the critical linkage between IT investments and social-economic development. In addition to his current advisory role to Wellness TechGroup, a Spanish company providing advanced solutions for Smart Cities, he is a Program Committee member for the \u201cInternational Conference on Smart Governance for Sustainable Smart Cities – 2019\u201d jointly organized by the United Nations University and the European Alliance for Innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n
