Smart cities can offer ways to cope with the demographic changes\u00a0through the use of technology and data, and many of the most promising ones are in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The International Data Corporation (IDC)\u00a0estimates\u00a0that <a href=\"https:\/\/ditech.media\/news\/smart-cities-and-buildings\/europe-as-dominant-continent-of-smart-cities\/\">European spending on smart cities<\/a>\u00a0will reach $19 billion (\u00a315 billion) in 2018, and the continent is well-represented on the\u00a0smart city rankings\u00a0produced by the Eden Strategy Institute, a Singapore-based social innovation consultancy.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the smart cities in Europe that earned places on the list:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Viena<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2013 Viena created the Aspern <a href=\"https:\/\/ditech.media\/news\/smart-cities-and-buildings\/\">Smart City<\/a> Research (ASCR) project, one of the continent&#8217;s largest urban development schemes.
